Guide to IDDSI Implementation: Successes and Challenges
The International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative is a global effort to standardize terminology and test methods for the dysphagia diet with the goal of better patient outcomes and better research in the field. This new paradigm has been endorsed by both the American Dietetic Association (ADA) and the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) and is in the process of being implemented around the world. In this 2-hour course, we cover the history and the science behind the diet, explaining eight different testing methods including a webinar kit for a hands-on experience. We provide a step-by-step guide to implementation illustrated with real-life experiences of other professionals who have already been working with the new paradigm at their sites to assist with challenges faced during roll-out. Topics include: Defining What IDDSI Means for Your Site, identifying an IDDSI Champion Team, Documentation and EHR Integration, Recipe Testing and Changing, and Preparing to Go Live.
